Purpose

The Department of Public Works Engineering Office is responsible for managing the design and construction of all ROADS Referendum projects, Capital Improvement Program, issuing right-of-way permits for all activities within the Town's right-of-way, plan review for Development Services and developing annual and long term schedules for surface treatments on Town streets.

The Engineering Office works diligently to ensure that Town projects are built to the highest standards of construction and engineering.  We also act as record keeper for the Town’s infrastructure records archiving engineering-related construction drawings, some of which date back over 80 years.

Roadway Excavation Permit Procedure and Form

Excavation permits are required from all contractors proposing to do any work within the Town’s right of way, except driveways which are covered under driveway permits.  The Town’s right of way is typically about ten feet (10') into the front yards from the edge of road pavement.  This ten foot area is typically where you find fire hydrants, utility poles and sidewalks.
