PROGRAM INFORMATION & DATA:
When a major emergency occurs, either natural or manmade, the Office of
Emergency Management interacts with other emergency agencies from both the
public and private sectors to coordinate response and relief activities. This
includes contact with agencies and departments from the local, State, and
Federal governments. This office is also responsible for maintaining and
updating the local emergency operations plan, which serves as an operational
guideline to agencies during significant emergencies. Additionally, the
terrorists attacks on America on Setpember 11, 2001, plus the subsequent anthrax
incidents, has resulted in this office participating in training and preparing
for acts of terrorism that could include the employment of weapons of mass
destruction.
DEPARTMENT GOALS:
1. Secure a vehicle for Enfield Emergency Management that will result in a
greatly improved ability to respond to incidents and assist the Incident
Commander
2. Conduct two emergency management workshops in Enfield with local agencies.
3. Upon request from the Incident Commander, respond to scene of emergencies to
assist in operations. Upon accomplishing the goal #1, develop an automatic
response protocol.
4. Participate, when possible, in simulated exercises with local emergency
response agencies.
5. Interact closely with emergency response and support agencies to improve
local capability to swiftly and effectively mitigate emergencies. Such steps
may include, but are not limited to, planning, purchasing selected equipment as
resources allow and implementing State and Federal guidelines under Homland
Security.
6. Implement the new software program DIMS (Disaster Management
Interoperability Services) that is being issued by both FEMA/US Department of
Homeland Security and the State Department of Homeland Security/Office of
Emergency Management. This is a planning software program that focuses on
emergency management.
