MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING
JUNE 23, 2005
A Special Meeting of the Enfield Planning and Zoning Commission was held on Thursday, June 23, 2005, in the Council Chambers, Enfield Town Hall, 820 Enfield Street, Enfield, Connecticut. Chairman Anthony DiPace called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

PUBLIC HEARINGS - NEW
a. PH#1414.02 – Special Use Permit to locate, maintain, conduct and operate a crematory as an accessory use under Section 9-1.9 of the Enfield Zoning Regulations to Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, (Map 73, Lot 88 and a 55’ x 442’ portion of Lot 89), R-33 Zone; and location approval pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes Sec. 19a-320, Leete Stevens, Inc., Applicant/Owner. This application shall be considered under the zoning regulations in effect at the original time of filing.
Chairman DiPace opened this public hearing at 7:30 p.m. He advised the audience that he would be calling speakers from the sign-up sheet during this public hearing and then opening the hearing up to the general public. He requested that audience members limit their comments to five minutes and reminded the public that the record of the previous hearings are still part of this record and that the Commission members have been provided with copies of transcripts from those hearings.
Attorney Matthew Willis, the attorney representing the Commission, made a brief presentation regarding this application for a crematory as an accessory use under Section 9-1.9 of the Enfield Zoning Regulations.
Attorney Fahey presented this application on behalf of the applicant, Richard Stevens, Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road.
Attorney David Baram made a presentation to the Commission on behalf of the intervener.
Chairman DiPace opened this hearing to the public for public comment. The following members of the public made comments both in favor and against this application to the Commission: Paul Teder, Tom McGovern, Neil Narcone, Vincent Urbanowicz, Penny Urbanowicz, Andrew Urbanowicz, Eileen Zarcaro, Karen Zarcaro, Brielle Brown, Jeannette Tallarita, John Joyce, Mike Trainer, Donna Szewczak, Scott Kaupin, Sal Presto, Thomas Zarcaro, Chester Blair, Michael Devito, John Shlatz, Ronald Proska, and Mae Slupecki.

During this public hearing, Commissioner Krebs made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Duren, for a recess. Following a unanimous vote, the Commission recessed at 8:40 p.m. The Commission reconvened at 8:47 p.m. (The reason for this recess was to correct static occurring in the microphones used to record this public hearing.)
Commissioner Duren made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Weseliza, to extend the meeting beyond 11:00 p.m. Following a unanimous vote, the motion was approved. The Commission recessed at 11:00 p.m. and reconvened at 11:08 p.m.
Commissioner Duren made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Krebs, to continue this public hearing to July 21, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. The motion was approved by a 7 – 0 – 0 vote.
ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Duren made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Krebs, to adjourn. Following a unanimous vote, the Commission adjourned at 12:00 midnight.
