Alcohol Service Liability Connecticut State Statues: Criminal
PARENTAL GUIDELINES FOR HOSTING A PARTY
- Set the ground rules before the party begins; state your expectations.
- A parent(s) should be home and visible during the party.
- Invite other parents to attend and help.
- Create a guest list and stick to it. No party “crashers.”
- Greet every guest at the door. Get to know your child’s friends.
- Never offer any type of alcoholic beverage to a person under the age of 21; this include non-alcoholic beverages such as O’Douls.
- The same amount of alcohol is in: 12 oz beer, 5 oz of wine, and 1.5oz of liquor.
- Anyone who attempt to bring alcohol should be asked to leave and their parents notified.
- Notify the parents of any teen who arrives drunk or under the influence of any drug. Don’t let them leave without a parent.
- Be alert for alcohol being hidden prior to the party for use during the event.
- Check the containers of beverages that guests bring in with them. Open it. Smell it. Ask for a taste.
- Use all of your senses! Be alert for the smell of alcohol on the breath or clothes on guests as they arrive. Greet them at the door. Say goodbye to them as they leave. Look into their eyes. Limit attendance and hours of the party.
- Make it clear to you teen that you will also be outside checking cars. Don’t allow guest to tailgate.
- Inform your child that police notification will be made if needed.
- In general…be nosey. It’s your home. Your rules. Your reputation.
