News Release for the Week of September 6, 2010

You missed some show if you missed Dave Colucci and a Tribute to the Music of Barry Manilow. Ask any of the hundreds of people who were there.  But we have another show coming up at the end of September that I know you will enjoy also.  Jimmy Mazz offers another high-energy show with a tribute to the greatest gyrators of all time including Tom Jones, Englebert Humperdink, and of course the King. “What’s New Pussycat”, “Delilah,” “After the Lovin” and “Burning Love” are just a few of the songs you will clap, swing and sway to. Mark your calendars for Hips Don’t Lie on Monday, September 27 at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale in the Senior Center office for $5 per person.  Swing it baby!

Baby Boomers, we have a night just for you!  You are not too old to rock!  If you are over 50, like Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen and Sting, you will want to attend Baby Boomer Night at the Enfield Senior Center.  Rock band, Evolution, will perform covers of Allman Brothers, Rolling Stones, and Eric Clapton. Sing, dance or just listen to “Mustang Sally”, “Before You Accuse Me”, “Melissa”, “Gimme Some Lovin’”,  “Feelin’ Alright” and more. On Friday, September 24, the band starts playing at 7 p.m. The grill opens at 5:30 so you can purchase a hamburger, hot dog, or fries.  We aren’t too old to rock n’ roll, but you can be home before 10.

The Enfield Senior Center is offering a trial three-session Pilates class beginning Thursday, September 16 from 5 to 6 p.m. through Thursday September 30.   Pilates is a mind-body exercise focusing on developing a strong core. Many active adults report improved flexibility and a decrease in back, neck and joint pain.  It is gentle to your body but is a challenging work out.  The trial session is an easy and inexpensive way to see if Pilates is for you.  The fee for residents is $9 and $12 for non-residents. A new 6-week session will follow from October 7 through November 18 on Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m.

Introduction to Tai Chi will be offered again on Wednesdays from  4 -5 p.m. from October  6 to December 1. This class is for the absolute beginner. Learn the basics of Tai Chi. After this class you may wish to progress to the Advanced Beginner class.  The cost is Residents $21 and $28 for Non-Residents

Beginning Wednesday, September 29 from 10 a.m. to noon, Elder Law Attorney Marcia Hess will be available for 15 minute private appointments at the Enfield Senior Center.  This new assistance program, Ask the Lawyer will be held on the last Wednesday of every month.  Make an appointment by calling the Senior Center office.  There may be a little waiting, because some appointments may take a little longer  than others, but this is a great opportunity to have questions answered.

If you would like to learn more about what the Enfield Senior Center has to offer,  join me for Welcome to Enfield Senior Center on Wednesday, September 8 at 6 p.m. or Tuesday, September 21 at 10 a.m. Take a tour and ask any questions along the way.  No need to register.  Just meet in the Senior Center Library.

We are kicking off the fall with a Polka Party Dinner Dance on Friday, September 10 at 5 p.m. Rod Bungard and his band will be playing polkas all evening.  The served meal will include Kielbasa and Sauerkraut, Mashed Potatoes, and Stuffed Cabbage with a special dessert.  The tickets are on sale for $14 for residents and $15 for nonresidents.

Are you new to retirement? Shift happens.  One day you are busy at work and can’t find time to do everything you want to do and the next day you have an abundance of it.  Where do you begin? What is the next phase of your life going to be like? You can volunteer, find a part-time job, travel, or garden.  The options are endless.  And that is the problem.  Meet with a group of people feeling the same way.  Register for New to Retirement , held on Monday September 13 at 6:30 p.m., by calling the Senior Center office.

The 7th Annual Firefighter Picnic will be held on Wednesday, September 15 at 12 p.m. Bring your own chair to the Enfield Fire Department at 199 Weymouth Road.  The firefighters in the Town of Enfield do the cooking and the Senior Center provides the band.  What a fun and free day! Free tickets are available in the Senior Center office.  In the event of inclement weather, the picnic will be held the next day.

Please register in the Senior Center office for these learning opportunities. Although registration is not mandatory, if the program is cancelled and you have registered, you will receive a call.
