The American's with Disabilities Act (ADA) ensures that places of public accommodation are accessible to persons with physical disabilities. This includes private and public buildings. The Town of Enfield recognizes the importance of providing access to all residents no mater what their physical capabilities. The Town also realizes the costs involved in converting old structures in order to comply with the law.
With those factors in mind, the Town created the ADA Compliance Program to provide financial assistance to property owners who want or need to bring their facility into compliance. The program provides up to $10,000 in grant funding toward any handicap improvement project. Property or business owners are required to match at least 10% of the total grant. Improvements include but are not limited to, ramps, railings, lifts, elevators, bathroom facilities, doors and entry ways, sidewalks and curb cuts. This program is designed to improve public, commercial, and multi-family properties only. Homeowners can obtain handicap access assistance through the Town's Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program.
