Redevelopment Projects

The Town of Enfield is committed to improving its traditional business centers through the revitalization process.  To that end, the Town has recently entered into several partnerships to redevelop distressed commercial properties in Thompsonville and Hazardville.  The Town's involvement in such projects is important and necessary for a number of reasons:

First, distressed or vacant properties that do not meet today's zoning requirements often lack market appeal to investors and developers making it difficult to get them redeveloped.  The Town can often provide financial support where the free market can't or won't, making redevelopment more palatable for potential developers.

Second, some distressed properties are taken by the Town for tax-title purposes.  The Town is not equipped to manage these properties on its own, so a Request for Proposal (RFP) is developed and advertised to attract potential investors to purchase.

Finally, there are some distressed properties that hold significant historical value.  These properties are considered to be an asset and the Town works to preserve them.  The Hazardville Institute on Hazard Avenue is a good example of historic preservation.  The Town partnered with a local not-for-profit group to renovate the landmark building and hopefully, one day, utilize it for community needs.

Below are some of the redevelopment projects the Town is currently working on:
