One and Two-Family Dwelling
Permits and Applications
Under the 2005 Connecticut State Building Code
Beginning 1 January 2006, one- and two-family dwelling building permits issued under the 2003 International Residential Code® portion of the 2005 State Building Code shall include all mechanical work related to the permitted project and no other mechanical permits or applications are required. All work, including mechanicals, shall be described on page two of the building-permit application and the appropriate costs shall be itemized on page one of the application.
When a project is limited to mechanical work only, such as replacing a furnace or an electrical service, the appropriate heating, electrical, or plumbing permit application shall be submitted. For example, when installing a replacement heating system, the heating permit application shall include the related electrical and plumbing work.
It is the responsibility of the applicant to include all work for the project and to include all the associated costs on the permit application. Work not included on the application or permit will not be approved during inspections and will prevent occupancy.
Separate sewer applications and permits are still required.
All permits issued belong to the property owner. Contractors and other persons applying for permits do so as agents for the property owner. All permits are sent to the property owner.
All work shall be done by Connecticut licensed tradesmen within the scope of their licenses or done personally by the owner-occupant of a detached single-family dwelling.
