Yard Waste

State of Connecticut law prohibits the disposal of grass clippings with household refuse. Therefore, yard waste consisting of grass clippings and brush, is collected separately and may be placed at curbside in Brown Tipper Carts or Brown Leaf bags. Biodegradable bags, of any type, including plastic, are, not approved yard waste containers and will not be collected as part of the yard waste collection program. Brush and tree limbs must be securely bundled and tied with string or twine and should not exceed 50lbs in weight nor exceed 4 feet in length, tree limbs must not be greater than 2 inches in diameter. These items must be placed at the curb for collection by 7:00 a.m. on normal collection days.

Recycling Collection

Commingled recyclables placed in blue bins provided by the Town, are collected weekly. Recycling bins are available at the public works complex located at 40 Moody Road. Place recycling bin at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the day of scheduled collection with the following items prepared as follows:

GLASS

containers from food or beverage, rinsed and free of residue with caps and lids removed and discarded. Please, no broken containers!

METAL

containers and cans from food and beverage, foils and tins, rinsed and free of residue. (Cookie sheets, odd pieces of metal, and small appliances are not recyclable items.)

PLASTIC

bottles (uncrushed) only with the number 1 or 2. Plastics labeled HDPE AND PETE ARE ACCEPTABLE. These are identified on the bottom of the containers, in side the embossed recycling symbol. (Motor oil arid antifreeze bottles should be disposed of with household refuse.)

ASEPTIC CONTAINERS

Items such as juice boxes, milk cartons and orange juice cartons fall into this category for recycling. Please rinse these items and remove any plastic straws. Place these items in your bin along with the plastic, glass and metal containers.

PUT NEWSPAPERS/MAGAZINES IN BROWN PAPER BAG OR TIE WITH STRING ONLY. Place in or beside your blue recycling bin. Bundled and tied cardboard 12" or less in height.

NO plastic bags of any kind are accepted in the recycling program

DO NOT tie with wire, nylons or synthetic cord.

FLATTEN CORRUGATED BOXES AND TIE WITH STRING ONLY. Dimensions of bundles should be no larger than 2x2' or 2x3'. Please  keep bundles 12" thick or less

Please place your newspaper and cardboard bundles beside your recycling bin. If you are using your blue bin for Newspaper stack your paper no higher than the top of the container. This will reduce the occurrences of blowing litter i.e. loose newspaper, around your neighborhood.

DO NOT tie with wire, nylons or synthetic cord.

Size 2’ x 2’ or 2’ x 3’ As our recycling vehicles use a trough style hopper, we request that your cardboard, bundled and tied, not be any thicker than 12 inches. Cardboard bundles larger than this thickness will consequently, lodge themselves against the roof of the vehicle, creating an unsafe condition for the operator.

Mixed Paper : The Town of Enfield collects MIXED PAPER--- Such as Junk mail, computer printer paper, magazines and catalogs. Paper products such as cereal boxes, shoe boxes and gift boxes may also be recycled. Please remove any plastic or wax-paper liners. Simply place that material in a brown paper bag  or bundle with your newspaper. Shred any paper with personal information such as your name, account numbers, date of birth or other information, to prevent identity theft.
