The Solid Waste Division is responsible for the collection and disposal of trash and recyclables. Trash and recycling are collected on a four-day weekly schedule, Monday through Thursday. Trash collected within the Town of Enfield is transported to the Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority (CRRA) facility in Ellington. Recyclables collected are transported to the CRRA recycling facility in Hartford.
Yard waste is collected every Friday. During holiday weeks, there will be No Yard Waste collection.
The division is also responsible for bulky waste collection. Residents can call the Solid Waste Division at 763-7560 to schedule an appointment. A $50.00 fee is required and must be paid prior to the date of the pick up.
Waste oil and batteries are usually collected every third Saturday of the month at the Public Works Complex at 40 Moody Road from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. There are no fees for this service.
The household hazardous waste program is offered once a year in Enfield through the MDC. This special collection is typically in May for Enfield. Residents can also bring hazardous materials to other towns participating in the program.
The division also operates the Transfer Station located on Town Farm Road. There is a required $5.00 permit for residents to use the facility. Residents can bring large, bulky items and must go over a scale at a fee of $0.07 per pound. The minimum charge is $7.00. Items containing Freon, such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers can also be brought to the transfer station for a $20.00 per item fee. Residents may bring their yard waste for disposal. Disposal of yard waste is free with a valid permit.
