PARENT EDUCATOR - SOCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT

Ø RATE OF PAY: $37,000/yr
Ø EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: Requires a Bachelors Degree in social work, psychology or a related field and at least four years of experience working with families with multiple needs or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Plans, coordinates and provides a variety of programs for families relating to the daily operation of the Family Resource Center.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Family Resource Center.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises volunteers and part-time program staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Assists the Family Resource Center Coordinator in planning, implementing and evaluating programs and services offered through the Family Resource Center; coordinates outreach and program scheduling; conducts a variety of programs for parents and children; facilitates parent education, playgroups and family development programs; conducts home visits and provides support to parents and their children; evaluates effectiveness of program activities periodically and keeps current with trends and developments in the field; recommends and arranges for new programs as needed; collaborates with local and state agencies; maintains files and statistics; maintains needed supplies and equipment for program activities; regular and punctual attendance.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs other duties as required.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to concentrate on fine details with some interruptions. Needs to attend to task/function for more than 60 minutes at a time. Able to understand and relate to specific ideas, generally several at a time and to understand and relate to theories behind several related concepts. Must be able to remember task/assignment given to self and other s over long periods of time.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Must have considerable knowledge of family dynamics, parent skills and child developmental stages; understands principles and skilled in practices of both case and group work and referral services; strong interpersonal and writing skills.
