Ø RATE OF PAY: $27,553/yr
Ø EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: Graduation from high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma (GED) and four (4) years experience in finance/accounting work utilizing computerized accounting systems or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Responsible for the routine accounting of Town fiscal records in a format defined by the department, routine receiving and recording of tax and sewer assessment payments and performing other clerical tasks in the Finance Department.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general direction of the Town Treasurer or a designated supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Regular & punctual attendance; May do all or part of the following: Posts budget expenditures to appropriate departmental accounts; operates computer terminal and makes data entries in keeping accounting records for general fund, capital improvement fund, etc.; produces general fund check register; maintains summary of cash transactions and accounting files; performs bank reconciliation for general government and payroll expenditure; prepares bank deposits; computes, prepares for payment and posts payroll insurance, union dues and various other expenditures; assists in processing payroll and preparing payroll related functions; types forms, reports, letters, memoranda, etc. as required; answers inquiries in person or over telephone; operates modern office equipment such as computer terminal, calculator, photocopying machine, typewriter, etc.; computes and processes payroll in payroll clerk's absence; assists Treasurer daily with computing and placing investments; handles accounts receivable; assists Treasurer with cash management spreadsheet applications and other projects as needed. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. May be occasionally required to walk; kneel; use hand to operate, finger, handle or feel objects or controls and reach with hands and arms. May occasionally be required to lift, push or pull up to 20 pounds. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption, attend to task for 45-60 minutes at a time, remember multiple assignments given over long periods of time and understand the theories behind several related concepts. May be required to perform highly complex and varied tasks requiring independent knowledge as well as exercise independent judgment.
May be exposed to dust, fluctuation in inside temperatures and electro-magnetic radiation as in a computer screen.
The noise level in the work environment is moderately quiet.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Dependable person with the ability to work accurately and independently; knowledge of principles and practices of governmental accounting and ability to apply this knowledge to work situations; some knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations controlling budgetary and fiscal record keeping; knowledge of modern practices, procedures and equipment; skill in operating computer terminal; ability to understand and follow oral/written instructions; ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and follow departmental methods and rules of performing duties; ability to make arithmetic computations and tabulations accurately and with reasonable speed; ability to prepare complete and accurate accounting reports and statements; ability to keep records, to assemble and organize data and to prepare reports from such records. Must be proficient on the computer. Must be honest, tactful and have a neat appearance.
