EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I - SOLID WASTE

Ø RATE OF PAY: $19.52/hr Start
Ø EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent and not less than one (l) year's employment as an operator of a heavy truck. Must possess & maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Duties involve routine operation of heavy duty trucks and other mechanical equipment following clearly prescribed standard operating practice and involving straightforward application of readily understood department rules and procedures. Does related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the immediate supervision of the Solid Waste Superintendent or other designated supervisor who issues instructions regarding tasks to be done and who checks work periodically to see that tasks are completed in accordance with instructions.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Issues routine instructions to Laborers regarding simple tasks to be done and verifies that tasks are done.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Regular & punctual attendance; primary duties involve operation of sanitation truck for collection of refuse and recyclables. When not engaged in primary duties of refuse collection, performs such other duties as: emptying trash barrels, picking up recyclables, plowing roads; operating light-powered equipment such as mowing or snow blowing machines; doing unskilled painting, rough carpentry or unskilled masonry work, maintaining street signs; routine laboring tasks such as cutting brush, cleaning work, shoveling materials, patching roads, picking up trash, raking leaves, putting up and taking down snow fences, etc.; on occasion may operate a piece of heavy mechanical equipment; routine maintenance of equipment such as filling gas tank and checking and adding oil.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Other duties as required.

Employee must frequently lift and move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Ability to operate heavy trucks in performing assigned duties; ability to follow simple written and oral instructions and clearly prescribed standard work practices.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES: Ability to work under unpleasant working conditions; mental alertness; dependability.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Sufficient physical strength and stamina as is necessary to successfully perform the duties required of the class.
