SENIOR CENTER ASSISTANT - PT

RATE OF PAY: $8.50/hr

EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: Graduation from high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma (GED) and not less than three (3) years of employment in a responsible position exercising moderately complex clerical work.

HOURS OF WORK: 14 hrs per week, flexible schedule
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Assists staff with general Senior Center operations and special events.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of the Senior Center Director and staff members.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Regular & punctual attendance; answers phones; uses copy machine; assists public at window by giving or securing information; takes registrations and performs other general office duties; provides front desk coverage for lunch breaks; straightens work areas; performs some program setups and breakdowns; makes coffee for seniors; performs errands as needed.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs other related work as required.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, reach with arms and hands, stand, use hands to finger, grasp handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Hand-eye coordination is required for operation of computer and various office equipment.

Must be able to remember multiple assignments given over long periods of time. Must be able to perform tasks requiring independent knowledge in addition to procedures or instructions provided. Must be able to work on multiple tasks with interruptions.
May be exposed to dust, fluctuations in inside temperature and electro-magnetic radiation as a computer screen.
Noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Must be a proficient typist and knowledgeable of varied office procedures; clerical ability; ability to accurately follow written and oral instructions; knowledgeable of office machines; must be able to deal effectively and courteously with the senior population. Must be proficient on computer.
