POSITION VACANCY

 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - CHILD DAY CARE

Ø  CLOSING DATE:  TUESDAY, JUNE 1, 2004

Ø   RATE OF PAY:  $46,835 - 54,286

Ø   EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:  Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field and a minimum of two (2) years of working experience with young children and two (2) years of supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Highly responsible position involving the development, operation and administration of the Child Day Care Program.  Acts as liaison between the Town and Day Care Advisory Board.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general direction of the Director of Social Services.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Directly supervises head teachers, clerical and support staff in the day care center.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Acts as the liaison on the Day Care Advisory Board; develops policies and makes recommendations for changes and improvements to the center in accordance with community needs; provides leadership plans and evaluates center services; provides a program of staff development in cooperation with the supervisory staff; establishes a plan for regular staff meetings and orientation of volunteers in cooperation with supervisory staff; establishes working relationships between program heads and various local and state agencies/organizations; works closely with officers and members of the Advisory Board, attends all Advisory Board meetings and participates in the work of appropriate committees as requested; establishes and maintains positive relationships with parents;  attends parent meetings as required; arranges regular parent/child conferences with appropriate staff; submits all financial reports and requisitions to appropriate Town offices and the Department of Human Resources as required; keeps abreast of the latest developments in the field of Early Childhood Education; presents the program to various sectors of the community; attends and participates in community meetings; accepts public speaking engagements when requested; attends professional meetings; applies for appropriate licenses and certificates such as local and state health, building and fire; prepares and sends reports as required to various state and local agencies; provides guidance and assistance to parents who are in need; assesses and reassesses needs of children and attempts to meet needs through various programs; acquires and maintains NAEYC accreditation for program; regular and punctual attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Work towards establishing parent support groups for each component and assures that parent support groups receive appropriate assistance in planning and implementing their group activities; assists the Director of Social Services in the preparation of the budgets and provides adequate accountability for expenditure of funds; establishes and implements a plan for centralized purchasing of supplies and equipment in consolidation with the Director of Social Services and appropriate program personnel; performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Day Care administration programming; considerable understanding of children and childhood; ability to prepare written reports of Day Care operation, including some simple statistical techniques; ability to work with the children and to relate to parents, staff and the community in which the children live; ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with parents and staff; ability to provide leadership to other members of the department; ability to present ideas to various groups with diverse interests; knowledge of state requirements for licensing; knowledge of procedures necessary for state funding and food reimbursement; knowledge of computer.
