COOK - FT (40 hours)

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Responsible position required to ensure that nutrition is provided for children of day-care responsibility.  Works independently and is responsible for all aspects of food service.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to the Day-Care Director.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises aide that helps in kitchen.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Regular & punctual attendance; formulate, type and post weekly menus; prepare breakfast, lunch and snacks; order all food supplies; does monthly inventory; cleans up after all meals.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Answer phones in absence of the receptionist; and does related work as required.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; talk and hear.  Employee is occasionally required to climb, stoop, reach, stand, and walk. 

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Knowledge of and ability to cook; knowledge of various kitchen appliances; ability to deal with young children; ability to perform simple clerical tasks; ability to be creative; knowledge of state requirements for food preparation.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Graduation from high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma (GED) and two (2) years experience in an institutional meal preparing environment or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must be able to pass State Licensing Exam required for Day Care.
