POSITION VACANCY

SENIOR CENTER ASSISTANT, Part-time - SOCIAL SERVICES

·         RATE OF PAY: $8.50/hr

·         CLOSING DATE: Tuesday, July 26, 2005

·         EXP. & TRAINING: Graduation from high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma (GED) and one (1) year of office experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

·         HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., but based on the needs of the Center

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under the general direction of the Senior Center Director assists staff with general Senior Center operations and special events.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Senior Center Director, staff members, or a designated supervisor who issues instructions and who reviews work for conformance to instructions.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Regular and punctual attendance; answer phones, uses copy machine and performs other general office duties; straightens work areas; assists public at window by giving or securing information; takes registrations; performs some program setups and breakdowns; makes coffee for seniors; performs errands as needed.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs other related duties as necessary.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear, use hands to finger handle feel or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk; lift, push or pull objects up to 40 pounds. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption, attend to task for 45 - 60 minutes at a time, remember multiple assignments given over long periods of time and understand the theories behind several related concepts.

May be exposed to dust, fluctuation in inside temperature and electro-magnetic radiation as a computer screen.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Ability to accurately follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees; ability to relate in a positive, courteous and cheerful manner to a senior population and the general public; knowledge of office practices and procedures including ability to type and knowledge of modern business equipment; ability to relate to an older population. Must be proficient on the computer. Must be honest, tactful and have a neat appearance.
