FITNESS CENTER ASSISTANT, Part-time - SOCIAL SERVICES
- RATE OF PAY: $12.00/hr contractual
- CLOSING DATE: deadline extended to AUGUST 15, 2006
- EXP. & TRAINING: Graduation from high school or GED. Experience in fitness program preferred. Must be CPR/First Aid Certified. Must possess a valid driver's license.
- HOURS OF WORK: Tuesday and Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., but based on the needs of the Center
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Supervises the Fitness Room in the absence of the Health and Fitness Coordinator.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of Senior Center Director and staff members.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Regular and punctual attendance; evening hours, 4 – 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday with some flexibility; assist older adults with fitness using fitness equipment, fitness training, providing fitness testing and personal training. Design exercise programs for members that are progressive in time. Use good judgment in emergency situations that might occur in the fitness room during working hours. Sanitize equipment at the end of the night and report any malfunctions in fitness communication log.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Assists the Health & Fitness Coordinator as needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, exercise, sit, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Hand-eye coordination is required for operation of computer and various other office equipment.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Highly motivated self-starter; experience working with a mature adult population. Thorough knowledge of conducting fitness assessments, ability to instruct and lead group exercise programs for a variety of individuals; knowledge of facilities and equipment and the handling and operation of the same; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, and public.
