 PT PROGRAM ASSISTANT – SENIOR CENTER

  • RATE OF PAY: $12.00/hr
  • CLOSING DATE:  Monday, August 21, 2006
  • EXP. & TRAINING:  Bachelor's degree in Human Services, or related field, or an Associate's degree and a minimum of two (2) years work experience in a responsible position in the field of Human Services, particularly with an older population or an equivalent combination of experience and training.  Experience creating and organizing programs for a mature adult population; skill in communications and public relations
  • HOURS OF WORK:  Monday through Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., but based on the needs of the Center.  May be required to work Friday or occasional weekend hours.

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under the general direction of the Senior Center Director, assists staff with general Senior Center operations and special events.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Senior Center Director, staff members, or a designated supervisor who issues instructions and who reviews work for conformance to instructions.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises contracted instructors for various programs.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Regular and punctual attendance; flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings and weekends; create , schedule and implement new classes and programs; work with contracted instructors; supervise and support evening activities; provide front office coverage as needed.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs other related duties as necessary.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear, use hands to finger handle feel or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to walk; lift, push or pull objects up to 50 pounds.  Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption, attend to task for 45 - 60 minutes at a time, remember multiple assignments given over long periods of time and understand the theories behind several related concepts. 

 

May be exposed to dust, fluctuation in inside temperature and electro-magnetic radiation as a computer screen.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Ability to accurately follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees ; ability to relate in a positive, courteous and cheerful manner to a senior population and the general public; must be honest, tactful and have a neat appearance.
