Regular Meeting
Enfield Economic Development Commission
Friday, June 11, 2010
Minutes
A regular meeting of the Enfield Economic Development Commission was held on Friday, June 11, 2010 in the Thompsonville Room, Enfield Town Hall. The meeting was called to order at 8:05 AM. Members present were Ralph Cerrato, Jerry Fitzsimons, Joanne Parlante, Chris Casey, Liz Ballard, Martha McLeod (8:09 AM), Julie Lai (8:17), and Ray Warren, staff liaison.
Mr. Warren then brought up expansion plans for the Eppendorf Manufacturing Corporation. It will be a $20 million investment with 150 jobs planned. He noted the approvals that would be needed including Inland Wetlands, 8-24 recommendation by Planning & Zoning, and then approval by Planning & Zoning. The biggest challenge with this project will be after July 1st with the departure of key staff members.
Discussion followed with questions on personal property taxes and if interns could be used in some departments.
The Plan of Conservation and Development was brought up and the debate on development on the Riverfront. Warren described some pictures that showed the riverfront and the various buildings that were located there.
Mr. Warren brought up the ECDC and informed the Commission that the Town Council was the Board of Directors for this corporation and was used for loans for housing. The program has not been used in 18 years and they have $200,000-400,000 in loans that don't have to be repaid until the property is sold.
McLeod distributed papers that showed a Career Services Program they have at Asnuntuck listing various jobs that are available around the state. It is a free service and someone would just have to log on to Asnuntuck's website and obtain information.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:18 AM.
Respectfully submitted,
Janice Ouellette
