News Release for the Week of June 8, 2015

The Friends of the Enfield Senior Center launched their 2015-16 Annual Fundraising Appeal this week with cookies, balloons and generous contributors. These contributions have purchased benches, televisions, cabinets in the Craft Room, fitness equipment, tables and chairs, Game Room furniture and more. They truly keep our facility state-of-the-art. All donations are welcome, but a contribution of $10 per person is suggested. Those who use the facility and do not reside in Enfield may choose to contribute more. We appreciate your continued support of the Enfield Senior Center.

I am looking for a few volunteers who would help me share our technology teaching software. The Sip and Swipe Café software on the iPads is easy to use but requires a little assistance for the user who is not familiar with the technology of tablets. Can you volunteer two hours a week? There will be training and no experience is necessary. E-mail me at slather@enfield.org if you are interested and I will schedule a one-to-one training.

The Afternoon Ballroom Dance is scheduled for Friday, June 19 at 2 p.m. What a great way to get exercise, enjoy the music and meet friends. Dance and enjoy a snack for $3, payable at the door.

The Knightsmen Band will be playing your favorite songs from the 50s and 60s on Friday, June 12 at 6 p.m. Dance, sing, and clap your hands to this fun band. Dessert and coffee will be served at the break. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person.

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program is off to a great start. If you or someone you know is over 60 and has a monthly income of $1,276 or less for a single person, they are eligible for a once a month free box of food. You can sign up on Monday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Enfield Senior Center. Please make an appointment. Bring proof of income. The boxes include: cheese, shelf stable milk, juice, oats, cereal, pasta, peanut butter, dry beans, canned meat, canned fruit and vegetables.

PRIME Fitness at the Enfield Senior Center, our gym, now accepts Silver Sneakers. Silver Sneakers is a program offered through some insurances that allows you a gym membership for free. You can find out if you are eligible by calling your Medicare supplemental insurance company. PRIME Fitness is different than other gyms because a Fitness Assistant designs a program just for you. You receive one-on-one training on all of the equipment and can ask all of the questions you like in a non-judgmental, friendly atmosphere. Stop in or call 860-272-3554 for more information.

Students from Fermi High School National Honor Society will be in the Technology Center at the Senior Center every Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. Bring your own laptop, phone or tablet and ask any questions you would like. The students provide individualized instruction.
