News Release for the Week of August 24, 2015

The Enfield Senior Center has some great new services to offer with our community partners. Home Helpers Home Care is sponsoring a free Canes, Walkers and Wheelchairs Inspection on Tuesday, September 1 from 12 to 1 p.m. They will continue this valuable service every first Tuesday of the month. Make sure your assistive equipment is in working order and fits properly. A Certified Addictions Counselor will be available for free 20 minute private appointments on the first Thursday of every month. She will offer information, guidance, and referrals to anyone concerned about the use and effects of alcohol and drugs. Perhaps it is a spouse, child, grandchild or friend that you are concerned about. Call the Senior Center office to schedule your free appointment. Recovery Happens begins on Thursday, September 3 from 9 to 11 a.m. Bring any questions about acute or chronic pain, injury, or exercises that could help on Tuesday, September 8, from 9 to 11 a.m., for Ask the Physical Therapist sponsored by Touchpoints at Chestnut. Please call the Senior Center office for an appointment.

A six-week educational program, Powerful Tools for Caregivers, will begin on Monday, September 14 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. This program, offered though Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, helps caregivers take care of themselves. Learn to reduce stress, improve self-confidence, and locate helpful resources. Register in the Senior Center office.

Our local firefighters are coming back again! The Firefighter Picnic will be held on Wednesday, September 2 at noon at Enfield Rotary Park at the Enfield Senior Center. Bring a chair and enjoy hamburgers and hot dogs grilled by our Enfield firefighters. If the weather is inclement, the picnic will be held on Thursday, September 3.

Additional sessions of Technology Help have been added every Thursday in August from 1 to 3 p.m. and every Monday and Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Students are volunteering their time to help anyone who would like to know more about their cellphone, laptop, tablet, or social media.

We are trying something new. It is very simple. You bring a joke and we go around in a circle with each person telling their joke. Join the Laugh Café on Tuesday, September 15 from 10 to 11 a.m.
