News Release for the Week of September 28, 2015

Our Fermi High School student volunteers are back! From 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning October 1, three patient and kind student volunteers will be in the Technology Café to help participants with any questions about their computer, tablet, phone or social media. They are available for one-on-one lessons, too. Just tell them what you would like to know.

The Canes, Walkers and Wheelchair Inspection went very well in September. It will be offered again on Tuesday, October 6 from 12 to 1 p.m. Several people were helped with height adjustments and new tips and tennis balls. You may also want to take advantage of Ask the Physical Therapist on Tuesday, October 13 from 9 to 11 a.m. Please make an appointment for this complimentary service.

Flu Clinics will be held on Thursday, October 8, Friday, October 16 and Thursday, October 22 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. No appointment is necessary.

Beatles tribute band, Beatles for Sale, is an award-winning, New England-based group of talented musicians. We are so fortunate to have this amazing musical group at the Enfield Senior Center on Friday, October 23 at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person including coffee and dessert. They always draw a crowd and are a favorite of Beatles enthusiasts.

Income Tax time is still a few months away. Volunteer preparers are urgently needed to do taxes for older adults through the AARP Tax-Aide program. Training starts in November. If you are interested in helping at the Enfield Senior Center, please sign up at aarp.org.

On Friday, October 2 at 6 p.m., local band, FullKrew is playing rock and roll dance music. Dessert and coffee will be served at the break for $7 per person. We also have a magic show on Thursday, October 15 at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale for The Magic of Brian Miller for $7 per person. Get your tickets early so you don’t miss out.

Have you heard about coloring books for adults? Many people find coloring to be calming. Join us for a relaxing evening on Wednesday, October 14 at 5:30 p.m. for Coloring for Stress Relief. We provide the coloring sheets, colored pencils, and a relaxing cup of tea. There is no charge for this event but registration is requested.

Something amazing happened. People came for the Laugh Café and really, really had fun. They shared jokes and had some great belly laughs. The group will meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. What a great way to get exercise and get those feel good endorphins moving. Join the Laugh Café on Tuesday, October 20 from 10 to 11 a.m. No registration necessary.

Join us as we venture to Foxwoods Resort Casino and Theater to celebrate Veterans Day with the music of the 4TROOPS on Wednesday, November 4, 2015. 4TROOPS is a new, powerful, vocal group comprised of four seasoned singers who are also United States combat veterans who served on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan: The 4TROOPS were introduced to the world on "Good Morning America." The group’s goal is to sing on behalf of everyone affiliated with the military to honor their sacrifices and help raise awareness of their needs. Cost: $80 per person. Package Includes: Reserved Seating in the Fox Theatre, $10 Slot Play, Free Lunch Buffet, and Gratuity for Driver & Escort. Stop in at the Enfield Senior Center Front Desk to make your reservation.

• 4TROOPS at Foxwoods, Wednesday, November 4, 2015. Cost: $80.00 per person.
• “It’s a Wonderful Life” at Goodspeed Opera House, Wednesday, November 18, 2015. Cost: $149 per person.
• Lee Greenwood “Tennessee Christmas” at Foxwoods, Thursday, December 3, 2015. Cost: $94 per person. Sign-up date: October 9, 2015, 10 a.m.

Multi-Day Adventures
Reservations are being accepted for multi-day adventures.
• Discover Switzerland, Austria, and Bavaria, September 14 – 23, 2016. Cost: $3599 pp/double.
