News Release for the Week December 26, 2016

 

 

 

Happy Holidays! I hope that your holidays are merry and wish you a wonderful 2017!

 

We have new programs to start your year off right. Ease stiffness, aches and pain in your hands with a free Hand Exercise class offered on Tuesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. beginning January 3. Learn ways to strengthen your hands and fingers to make everyday tasks easier. Please register for the class by calling the Senior Center office. The Body 360 class on Thursdays from 1 to 1:45 p.m. incorporates stretching, flexibility and balance into one class. The cost is $21 for residents and $28 for non-residents and begins on January 12.

 

Our very popular Boxing & More with Parkinson’s class continues to be offered on Mondays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 3 – 4 p.m. You can find more information online or in the Senior Center newsletter, Front & Center.

 

The AARP Tax-Aide Program runs from February 1 through April 5 on Mondays and Wednesdays. IRS-trained AARP volunteers complete Federal and State income tax returns at no charge. Please call the Senior Center office to make your appointment.

 

Sign up for a free Landscape Paint Party on Friday, January 6 at 11 a.m. Learn how to create a beautiful landscape using acrylic paint. All supplies will be provided by OBTA Care. Registration is required. Please call the Senior Center office to sign up.

 

Nightshift Band is coming on Friday, January 20 at 6 p.m. to heat up our winter. Dance to 60s, 70s, and 80s popular danceable songs. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be postponed until Friday, January 27. Dessert and coffee will be served at the break. Whether you are dancing on the dance floor or in your chair, you are going to love this dynamic band.

 

The Enfield Recreation Department is sponsoring Adult Open Gym Pickleball on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from January 5 through April 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The daily fee is $2 for residents and $2.50 for non-residents. Please call Enfield Recreation at 860-253-6420 with any questions.

 

If the Enfield Public Schools are closed because of inclement weather, the Senior Center programs are canceled. If there is a school delay, our schedule goes on as usual. The building remains open, in most cases, for drop-in activities including the Prime Fitness Center. Notification of cancellation is posted on WFSB, Twitter and Facebook. Always feel free to give us a call to check the closing status.

 

The Enfield Senior Center is not open in the evenings between Christmas and New Year. The hours are: Friday, December 23 - 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, December 26 – Closed, Tuesday, December 27 – 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, December 28 – 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, December 29 – 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, December 30 – 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, January 2 – Closed. We will resume our regular schedule on January 3.

·         Eating Healthy in the New Year – Wednesday, January 4 at 1 p.m.

·         Crisis Management Workshop – Wednesday, January 11 at 1 p.m. Snow date: January 18.

·         IRA and 401K Seminar – Wednesday, January 25 at 1 p.m.

Trip flyers are available on our website at www.enfield-ct.gov/seniors or can be picked up at the Senior Center.

 

Day Trips

Day trips are available for sale on or after the trip sign-up date. 

·         Best of Maple Sugar Season, March 14, 2017. Cost: $95 per person. Trip sign-up date is January 6, 2017.

·         The Jersey Boys at the Bushnell, March 23, 2017. Cost: $99 per person. There is no sign-up date for this trip. Reservations are being taken at this time.

·         West Point Dress Parade, April 29, 2017. Cost: $101 per person. Trip sign-up date is February 24, 2017.

·         Mamma Mia! Westchester Dinner Theatre, May 24, 2017. Cost: $107 per person. Trip sign-up date is March 3, 2017.

·         The Tall Ships Boston Harbor Cruise, June 21, 2017. Cost: $115 per person. Trip sign-up date is April 7, 2017.

 

Multi-Day Adventures

Reservations are being accepted for multi-day adventures.

·         The Wonders of Italy, April 25 – May 5, 2017. Cost $4899 pp/double.

·         Holland, Michigan - Tulip Time, May 9 – 16, 2017. Cost $1695 pp/double.

·         Ogunquit, ME - June 5 – 7, 2017. Cost $409 pp/double.

·         4-Day Montreal & Quebec City, August 26-29, 2017.  Cost $779 pp/double.

·         Canadian Rockies, September 2 – 8, 2017. Cost $3259 pp/double.

·         Iceland, October 19 - 25, 2017. Cost: $2999 pp/double.
