News Release for the Week January 9, 2017

 

 

 

 

Explore your creative side with a free Coloring for Stress Relief class offered on Thursday, January 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. Learn Card Making on Fridays, January 13 and 27 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for $8 for residents and $10 for nonresidents. All supplies are included. No registration is necessary for our welcoming craft groups. If you enjoy knitting, crocheting or other needlework, join the Creative Stitches group on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Craft Room. If you like to sew, visit the Sassy Sewers group on Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. If you want to learn basket making try the Pot Belly Basket class on Thursday, January 12 from 12:30 to 5 p.m. The fee is $6 for residents and $7 for nonresidents. There is a $10 materials fee payable to the instructor. Sometimes you need to put aside time to complete a craft project. On Tuesday, January 31 from 12 to 4 p.m., you can use the Craft Room to work on your own project. Just gather up your project and drop in for the free UFOs: Unfinished Objects. Jewelry class is on Friday, January 20 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Create a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry with instruction and a huge supply of beads to choose from. The fee is $4 for residents and $5 for nonresidents. Beads and supplies are purchased from the instructor. Start 2017 by learning something creative and new.

 

Wednesday evening Zumba is returning! We are pleased to announce that Zumba Gold will return to the Enfield Senior Center beginning February 1 from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. The February session runs for four weeks. The cost is $16 for residents and $20 for nonresidents. After the trial session, Zumba Gold will continue through March and April.

 

Our Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group is held at the Enfield Senior Center monthly. Join the group on Tuesday, January 17 at 1 p.m. if someone you are caring for has the disease. A Social Worker from Masonicare Partners facilitates the monthly meetings. Ian McDonald, from the Alzheimer’s Association holds office hours at the Senior Center on Thursday, January 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please call the Senior Center for an appointment to discuss any concerns or information and referral help.

 

Allied’s Attic is coming to the Enfield Senior Center to collect any items you would like to donate. Allied will have a van in the Senior Center parking lot on Wednesday, January 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to make it easier for you. Drop off your old clothes, coats, scarves, gift items…anything really. This is a great way to start the New Year by helping Allied and having a cleaner closet.

 

Nightshift Band is coming on Friday, January 20 at 6 p.m. to heat up our winter. Dance to 60s, 70s, and 80s popular danceable songs. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be postponed until Friday, January 27. Dessert and coffee will be served at the break. Whether you are dancing on the dance floor or in your chair, you are going to love this dynamic band.

 

The Enfield Recreation Department is sponsoring Adult Open Gym Pickleball on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from January 5 through April 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The daily fee is $2 for residents and $2.50 for non-residents. Please call Enfield Recreation at 860-253-6420 with any questions.

 

If the Enfield Public Schools are closed because of inclement weather, the Senior Center programs are canceled. If there is a school delay, our schedule goes on as usual. The building remains open, in most cases, for drop-in activities including the Prime Fitness Center. Notification of cancellation is posted on WFSB, Twitter and Facebook. Always feel free to give us a call to check the closing status.

·         Best of Maple Sugar Season, March 14, 2017. Cost: $95 per person. Trip sign-up date is January 6, 2017.

·         West Point Dress Parade, April 29, 2017. Cost: $101 per person. Trip sign-up date is February 24, 2017.

·         Mamma Mia! Westchester Dinner Theatre, May 24, 2017. Cost: $107 per person. Trip sign-up date is March 3, 2017.

·         The Tall Ships Boston Harbor Cruise, June 21, 2017. Cost: $115 per person. Trip sign-up date is April 7, 2017.

Reservations are being accepted for multi-day adventures.

·         The Wonders of Italy, April 25 – May 5, 2017. Cost $4899 pp/double.

·         Holland, Michigan - Tulip Time, May 9 – 16, 2017. Cost $1695 pp/double.

·         Ogunquit, ME - June 5 – 7, 2017. Cost $409 pp/double.

·         4-Day Montreal & Quebec City, August 26-29, 2017.  Cost $779 pp/double.

·         Canadian Rockies, September 2 – 8, 2017. Cost $3259 pp/double.

·         Iceland, October 19 - 25, 2017. Cost: $2999 pp/double.
