News Release for the Week of July 3, 2017

The temperature was just right and the breeze was blowing for our Accreditation Celebration and Volunteer Recognition on Monday. The music was perfect for the occasion. The Friends of the Enfield Senior Center sponsored this event. We are so fortunate to have a philanthropic nonprofit Friends groups dedicated to making improvements to the Senior Center. Thank you to our wonderful Buildings & Grounds Division for making the outdoor area beautiful and cleaning the outside of the building as well. Grower Direct donated lovely plants in galvanized pots for each attendee. We appreciate all of the efforts of everyone involved.

Tickets are going fast for the California Dreamers in Concert on Friday, July 21 at 6 p.m. The California Dreamers are a dynamic, 7-piece band recreating the music of the Mamas and the Papas and the late 60s “Flower Power” generation. Remember Monday Monday, Dream a Little Dream of Me and Make Your Own Kind of Music? Tickets are on sale for $7 per person including dessert and coffee.

The Enfield Big Y is offering a Cooking for One or Two tour on Friday, July 7 at 1 p.m. in their store. Join Dietician Kittie Spedding to learn about how to create nutritious meals that won’t leave you with too many leftovers. Sign up by calling the Senior Center office and then meet Kittie in the Café area.

Are you new to the Enfield Senior Center? Join us on Monday, July 10 for Welcome to ESC. Meet in the Library and then take a tour of the facility. Learn about all of the classes, services, and activities. Have all of your questions answered. No need to register. Just stop in.

The Goldtones Summer Show on Sunday, July 16, at 2 p.m., features our own Enfield Senior Center choral group under the direction of Cindy Palmer. They put together a delightful, fun-filled musical show. Tickets are on sale for $5 per person. Keep in mind that the Goldtones practice on Thursdays at 10 a.m. and are always looking for new members.

Learn how to manage primary risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, physical inactivity and poor diet to lower your individual risk for stroke with Erin Ballou, MA. Stroke Prevention and Education Program will be held on Wednesday, July 5 at 1 p.m.

The Enfield Senior Center hosts TED Talks and discussion groups on the first and third Thursday of the month at 10:30 a.m. In July the topics are How Computers are Learning to Be Creative on July 6 and The Wonderful and Terrifying Implications of Computers That Can Learn on July 20. Exercise your brain by joining this class in the Technology Room. There is no fee or registration for the TED Talks discussion.

Learn How to Minimize Stock Market Risk and Eliminate the Cost of Nursing Home Risk at this seminar on Wednesday, July 12, 1 p.m. presentation. Bill McCloskey of Stateline Senior Services will address the two biggest financial concerns of older adults.

Bennington, VT, October 5, 2017. Trip sign-up date is July 21, 2017 at 10 a.m. Cost: $84 per person.

National 911 Memorial Museum, November 5, 2017. Trip sign-up date is August 25, 2017 at 10 a.m.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular, November 30, 2017. Cost: $165 per person. 


Multi-Day Adventures
