1. How much will I pay for a building permit application?

Permit Fee Table.. please be aware there is an additional processing fee for using credit, debit or Pay Pal. If paying by cash or check there is no processing fee. 

2. How long does it take to get my building permit?

We have thirty days to review your application. Many applications don't take that long, but 30 days is the maximum time for a review, approval or denial. 

3. How far from the property lines do I need to be?

This depends on the type of project your doing and your zoning district. Please contact Zoning at 860-253-6355 for more information. 

4. How do I schedule an inspection?

Call the office number 860-253-6370 between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday (except holidays). Please have your permit number or numbers and contact info when you call. 

5. Can you recommend a contractor or design professional?

Sorry we are not able to recommend contractors or design professionals. 

6. How do I verify my contractor's license or registration?

You can check it on the State of Connecticut E-License site https://www.elicense.ct.gov/Lookup/LicenseLookup.aspx

7. How many sets of plans do I need when I submit my building permit application?

That depends. Plans for 1 and 2 family homes will need 2 sets, a 3rd set will be required if Health Department approval is required. For anything beyond a 1 or 2 family house at you will need 3 sets, a 4th set will required if Health Department approval is required. 

8. How do I find my property lines?

The street file for your property may have a survey. Please come to the Building Inspection Department at Town Hall, Monday - Friday (excluding holidays) between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to see if there’s a survey in your file.
